IN SHORT
Buying a website means a larger one-off investment, but no ongoing rental fee for the website package itself. Renting lowers the initial outlay and spreads costs predictably over several months. Which option makes more sense depends mainly on the project scope, cash flow and intended period of use.

What does it mean to buy a website?
When you buy a website, you pay the agreed project price to create the defined scope. At MK, the Web Presence purchase package starts at €1,190 plus 19% VAT. The final price depends on the agreed scope. Domain and hosting are separate from the project itself: where needed, they are separate third-party costs. The current are listed further down in a direct overview.
What does it mean to rent a website?
With a rental model, the website is provided for a monthly fee under the selected package conditions. A setup fee may apply depending on the package. At MK, Web Presence Flex is €89 per month plus a €395 setup fee; Web Signature Flex is €199 per month with no setup fee. Presence Flex has a six-month minimum term, then can be cancelled monthly. Signature Flex also has a six-month minimum and a maximum rental period of twelve months. Unless stated otherwise, prices exclude 19% VAT. Current are listed in the overview below.
What costs are involved?
For a useful comparison, look beyond the headline package price. Check which of these costs apply to your project:
- creation / project price
- possible setup fee
- monthly rental fees
- domain
- hosting
- optional additional services
- later expansions
Where required, domain and hosting are separate third-party costs. Their scope and price depend on the provider and services needed.
Who might benefit from buying?
Buying may suit you if you are planning for the long term and prefer a one-off project investment over a monthly website rental. It may be a fit when you have:
- an established, long-term business presence
- a budget available for a one-off investment
- a preference to avoid monthly website rental over the long term
- a greater focus on long-term cost control
Who might benefit from renting?
Renting spreads costs across monthly payments, which may appeal if you want to keep the initial outlay manageable. It may be a fit when you have:
- a lower initial investment in mind
- a preference for predictable monthly costs
- a new project or business
- a need to preserve cash flow
- a modest website scope to start with
Worked examples
These examples use current MK prices and show the stated calculation period. Separate domain and hosting costs and services not listed are excluded. Unless stated otherwise, prices exclude 19% VAT.
These examples do not make one model universally cheaper. The result depends on duration, package and the agreed project scope.
What to check with a rental model
Compare the terms of the specific offer, not only its monthly price. In particular, check:
- minimum term
- cancellation conditions and timing
- setup fee
- what the package includes
- costs for additional pages or features
- separate domain and hosting costs
- whether a purchase option is offered
- what happens to the website and its content at the end of the agreement
Web Signature Flex lists a purchase option from the end of month 6 through the end of month 12 for a one-off net price of €2,496 plus VAT. Rental payments in months 7–12 are not credited; if the option is not used by the end of month 12, the rental ends. This option is not listed for the other models in the current pricing information. Ask for the terms of your specific offer to be confirmed before signing.

Buying often suits businesses that plan for the long term and prefer a one-off investment. Renting may be attractive if you want to keep the initial outlay low and spread costs predictably. Scope, intended period of use and business priorities are what matter.
